Bridesmaids, Analysis of Promotional Package

Official film poster

The poster shows five bridesmaids and a bride standing against a wall, with a  slouchy, relaxed, yet intimidating stance. This illustrates to the audience that they are not the typical bridesmaid group as they are carefree, indicating that it will be a comedy.
All of the information given is central to the page to draw the audience in and make it look symmetrical. It mentions at the top that the person who produced this film is the same one who produced the '40 year old virgin', 'Superbad' and 'Knocked Up', which are all famous, highly successful American comedies. This is another indication to the audience that the film will be a genre as this is the producer's speciality.
The lighting around the bridesmaids is light but then gradually gets darker the closer it gets to the end of the page. This represents that the spotlight will always be on them as they have big personalities and that they are the main focus of the movie.
The style of the character's dresses suggest that it will be centred around a typical wedding which will draw in people who are engaged to be married as there will be aspects that are happening in their reality that are brought up, but with a comedic spin making it even more enjoyable.

Official Website

The official website for Bridesmaids continues the house style from the poster by using the main colours of pink, black and white and also the same font. Part of the poster is shown in the background of the website, signifying to the audience that these two people may be the main characters, and also to constantly remind them which website they are browsing through.
The website was created to promote the film before and after it was made to cause interest and get people to want to go and see it.

Official Trailer

Music
The music begins light heart-idly and then begins to pick up the pace after the first pun is told; this effect is used to instantly bring pace to the trailer and to portray to the audience that the genre of the film will be a fast paced romantic comedy.About half way through the trailer the song 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap' by ACDC begins to play as it fits in with the onscreen events with the beat of the song and also what the message of the song is because in the trailer it is clear that Annie is not keen on taking on all of the duties of a Maid of Honor so she may not put in all of her effort, therefore 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap' is ironic. Also because ACDC have given the production company permission to use their song in the trailer it means that they feel like the film will be a success, otherwise they would not have allowed it to have been used.

Characters
In the trailer the audience is introduced to the protagonist, Annie, and her five friends. From the way that they act and what they say it is instantly clear that the film will be a comedy, for example Annie asks where they should go on the hen party and one of the bridesmaids replies 'a fight club'...'no we're gonna be the fight club!'.

Narrative
The main way that the director gets across what happens in this film is by using key pieces of dialogue being spoken by the characters and also intertitles. These are good techniques because they are simple and keep you in the loop with what is happening.

Lighting
The lighting on a whole is bright and natural, this is to again convey that the genre of the film is an amusing romantic comedy.

Target Audience
The target audience for this film will be women between the ages of 16 and 25, and women who are engaged or are going to be part of a wedding. This is clear because first of all the title is 'Bridesmaids' which will instantly attract budding brides so that they can have a laugh about events which may affect them. Also it targets this age range because of the humour used i.e sexual, toilet etc.

Editing
At first the editing is set pretty slow but then soon picks up the speed, using many cut edits, when more action pact shots are shown, this is done to pick up the pace of the trailer and to create excitement. The editing also matches the music (and anchors it); when the music does start to pick up the pace then so does the editing. Transitions like a downwards swipe is used when text appears on the screen to emphasis that this is a comedy as it is a fun transition to use, and you wouldn't expect to see it on a horror film.
