Film Poster





Below is a plan of how I think the final film poster will look like. This idea includes most of the typical codes and conventions found in a film poster to keep it professional.

Film Magazine Front Cover

When planning on how my magazine front cover would look I tried to follow the typical codes and conventions of magazine making to ensure that it would proffessional and stylish.

Using narrative theories which we have discussed, write a short essay in relation to your film trailer

Narrative is a media term for ‘story telling’. It is not then story itself but rather the way that the story has been told. This involves things like verisimilitude, narrative structure and enigma.

I think that our product has a strong narrative and compels the audience to go and watch the film. The film is about a professional BMXer who ‘appears’ to be getting stalked by somebody but then it turns out to only be a publicity stunt, although after this has been found out he then starts to get stalked for real but because he thinks that it is only a joke he chooses to ignore them; this then hangs his life in the balance.

Our film follows a non linear sequence because at the beginning you see the character tied up in a hostage situation but then he flashes back on the events which led up to this occurrence. After this has happened the film then proceeds in a linear sequence as it shows the events which are happening in the present time.

This then leads on to the open ended finale of the film because the film leaves the audience on a cliff hanger as they don’t know what happened to the professional BMXer i.e. is he alive or not, which follows onto the sequel of Life Drop.

Todorov’s theory consists of five main sections; the equilibrium has to be carefully shown, there is a disruption, there is a recognition that a disruption has happened, there is an attempt to repair the damage done by the disruption, a new equilibrium is achieved. Our film follows these conventions of equilibrium to begin with but then after the fourth stage instead of ‘a new equilibrium is achieved’ we have a new disequilibrium (because he begins to get stalked again for real) which adds to the enigma in hand and makes the audience really think and question events which are happening on screen.

Our film defies the codes and conventions of a typical narrative because the character which is the antagonist is a woman where as typically the villain is a man. Also the character which is the victim and recessive is the male BMXer which again challenges the audience’s expectation because he appears to be the dominant male but is getting blackmailed by a female.

Overall I think that our film mainly challenges the expectations that come with certain narratives and I think that this was done because it is a British made film therefore it can be expected. I think that our film mixes things up for the better as it makes the audience fully concentrate and embrace the film.

Life Drop- The Film

Synopsis
Our film is going to be about a proffessional BMXer who *appears* to be getting stalked but then it turns out that he is only doing it for publicity and attension. Although this then backfires against his favour because he then starts getting stalked for real, but he thinks that it is someone pulling a prank on him so he just ignores it. He think gets kidnapped and his life hangs in the balance- will he survive or will he be on death's doorstep?

The Script

<Various locations around Richmond>

George: (Doing different tricks on the BMX, needs to include at least one jump, one 360 and one wheelie)

<George’s Bedroom>

 George: (Sit on the sofa in front of the television eating cereal, receive a text and react unfazed and cheerful. Read the text and appear confused, but just brush it off and carry on eating cereal and watching television)

<George’s Kitchen>

George: (Put on shoes and begin to get up but then *notice* an email in Inbox. Read it and act more worried. Get up and walk out of the room)

<George’s Hallway>

George: (Pull the letters out of the door and flick through them all until you get to the ‘Read Me’ one) Oh sick, the new edition of Ride UK BMX! Mr Moffitt...Mr Moffitt. Read Me? Must be some chick... (Open the letter and mumble what you are reading) …World Class Biker…Missing!

<In a darkly lit room, with the only light source being that of a desk lamp>

Becca: (Put on lipstick; look around the room with your eyes, acting shifty and distracted; Tap finger on the desk with a rhythm)

<Outside George’s House, on the driveway>

George: (Run out of the house with your bike in your hand and frantically cycle down the street and around the corner of the road. Appear frightened and panicked)

<In an enclosed dark room, there is only one source of light pointing at George. He is tied up and blind folded, sat on a stool in the centre of the room>

George: (Struggle against the roped that you are tied up with, ‘look’ around the room, act panicked)

The Real Storyboard

*this is the way we will make it seem like it is the stalker rewinding the film then playing it again*


1) The shot of the bike wheel spinning, zooms in on shadow OR of the shadow walking over the bike on the floor.

4) Shot of George getting post, flicks through all of the post to reveal the newspaper article throws the article onto the side


5) The shot of George receiving the e-mail and moving towards the front door

7) Shot of Becca - split screen into 4 - her eye OR hand and her mouth putting on lipstick and finally on the largest part of the screen her laying out the Polaroids.
